What is the Thesis?
The main activity in Year 2. It is a design research project, or series of projects, in which students investigate an interaction design theme, each chosen by the student with the advice of faculty. It requires students, in their graduating year to achieve a substantial, impressive and well recorded piece of work in an area that interests them and which will in some way move the world. A design research project differs from an ordinary design project in that it produces not just a design but also more universally applicable knowledge or insight which helps people design better in the future.
The Thesis project is presented in the form of an oral presentation, a written report, and an exhibit or installation at the Graduation Show. Past Thesis projects have also been exhibited worldwide, recently for example at the Triennale di Milano, Firenze World Vision, the Festival of Science in Genoa, and the first Architecture Biennial in Beijing.
