Role   Heather Martin is a Director of the Interaction Design Institute in Milan. Previous to moving the Institute to Milan, she spent one year as a full-time Associate Professor at Interaction-Ivrea, advising students on new tangible interfaces for objects and spaces. She also simultaneously worked on client projects; one with Sony Europe (2004) and one with Artemide Spa in Milan (2005). For the Artemide project she was responsible for managing the project and was the creative lead in a team of design & technology experts hired by the Institute from Italy, the UK and the USA. In addition to managing the Institute in Milan, she also continues to advise students on tangible interfaces and recently led an Applied Dreams workshop with Droog from the Netherlands. In the Summer of 2005 she became a founding associate of the Interaction Design Association (IDA).
 
Education   Heather Martin has an MA in Computer Related Design from the Royal College of Art, London, UK (1998) and a BA (Hon) in Industrial Design from the University of Northumbria in Newcastle, UK (1993).
 
Bio   Heather Martin is a Product Designer and Interaction Designer who has worked in London, New York and San Francisco.
From 2004 to 2005 Heather Martin worked as an Associate Professor at Interaction-Ivrea where she taught physical interaction design and worked on client projects with Sony and Artemide. From 2000 to 2003 she worked at IDEO in London as a Senior Interaction Designer and Project Manager. From 2000 to 2001 she was a Project Manager and creative lead for IDEO on the PRADA New York Epicentre project, done in collaboration with Rem Koolhaas and OMA/AMO.
From 2002 to 2003 she led a worldwide team at IDEO on the creation of a wireless LAN in-flight entertainment device for use on-board private VIP aeroplanes by Lufthansa Technik.
From 1998 to 2000 Heather Martin was a full-time Research Fellow in Computer Related Design at the Royal College of Art.
In 2001 she was also a visiting tutor at the college.
She has also been a visiting lecturer in the BA and MA Product Design at Central St. Martins University, London, UK.
Previous to studying Interaction Design at the RCA she worked for 3 years as a Product Designer at Tangerine in London.
